I am Allan, runningfreemanila or RFM in the running community, a 31-year old individual based in Quezon City, Philippines. I am a bank employee from an international investment bank who enjoys a lot of sidelines (dancing, traveling, reading, writing and of course, running).
I am one of the founders (there are 5 of us) of six:30 running group, based in University of the Philippines Diliman. To date, there are about 50 active members of the group who enjoy both short and long distances: specialists, marathoner, ultramarathoners, triathletes and multisport athletes.
I admit running is an offshoot of my hyper-activity. After enduring 2 Body Combat marathons (a 4-hour intense workout of tae-bo and capoiera combos) in Fitness First, I dared myself of joining the run.
I only had football as something that I can be proud of as my sport in Grade 3 where I played as a quarterback then tried volleyball and swimming as PE in my high school and college years. The 2005 carjack incident made me realize how amazing it is to be alive to keep it to myself that I decided to go out there and celebrate life as much as I can. Fortunately, thanks to Century Tuna Superbods Fun Run 2010 (first leg of the 2010 RunRio Trilogy) I started running in the 3k category!
Last February 2011, I finished my first marathon in The Bull Runner Dream Marathon (TBRDM). Last December 2011, I had my international marathon in the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon with my fellow six:30 teammates!
Last March 2013, I finished the Bataan Death Marathon for 102 kilometers! This is the longest distance that I have covered so far.
My blog aims to support and push the runner in everyone, because anyone can run. No matter how fast or how slow you are, as long as you believe in yourself because the only competition you have is you. If you have enough time to backtrack my entries, you will soon find out how I worked hard in achieving my goals. Like any determined warrior, we can always realize our dreams (like my dream of running in New York, Paris or even the Great Wall of China!).
